About the Program

Do you want a medical career with endless opportunities? The Medical Assisting course is a starting point to begin a career in the medical field. Learn the language of doctors, nurses, and health care professionals. This course involves a curriculum of medical terminology, administrative focus, basic clinical skills, and a second semester internship! Successful completion of a high school health class and biology class are required prior to attending this program.

Learn to take blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight; perform vision screening, surgical scrub, CPR, First-Aid, medical instruments and office skills. Students in this course will complete an internship during second semester, working in a hospital or clinic setting. Therefore a grade of 80% or better is required by completion of first semester to continue the course. Successful students can also earn up to 13 college credits through the LWIT dual credit program, or up to 15 dual college credits through Bellevue College, or up to 19 dual college credits through the EvCC program by completing this course with a grade of B or better.

All health class students must declare proof of insurance for internships.

Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Biology and Health classes.

Jan Le joined Sno-Isle TECH as our Medical Assisting Instructor in 2017.  She has dedicated much of her healthcare experience in many different areas of health services ranging from Volunteer Health Management to Health Care Administration in the primary care setting.

 

Jan graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She then furthered her education, acquiring a master’s degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Global Health. Her fieldwork for this degree was done  in the Peace Corps. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala and Peru working with the Ministry of Education and Health to build capacity and improve health outcomes in rural villages.

 

Jan enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the Northwest when she is not in the classroom. She hopes to inspire students to pursue a career in healthcare by starting at Sno-Isle TECH and continuing beyond into a healthcare related profession!
