About the Program

Students in the Video Game Design program learn to design and create video games using trigonometry and higher math, computer programming in C#, as well as 2D computer animation. This course prepares students for skills necessary for two of the video game industry’s biggest needs: qualified video game designers and programmers.

Strong programming skills are not needed. Such skills will be developed and refined as you progress throughout the program. This is a math intensive program. Successful completion of Algebra 1 is a pre-requisite.  Equivalency credit is available in this class for a 3rd year Math credit.

Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Algebra 1.

Meet the Instructor!

Video Game Design Instructor

Hi, I’m Derek Herrera-Sturm, the Video Game Design instructor for Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center! The video game industry is an ever-evolving industry that I’m excited to help prepare you to join!

My two favorite things to do are simple: programming and teaching. My passion for both these things led me to be the instructor for this amazing class and I am so excited to teach students who want to get into the video game industry. I love helping students reach their goals and do things they never thought were possible. I take great pride and joy in seeing them grow in confidence and skill.  As a video game designer/programmer, I love supporting the industry and helping students shape the future of it for years to come. I am one of the teachers at Sno-Isle TECH who was lucky enough to attend the school myself when I was in high school. After graduating, I attended DigiPen Institute of Technology, one of the leading game design and programming colleges in Washington.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns about the class!
